NATURAL TEXTURES
The aim of every photo shoot in this section is to enhance the facial textures of the models, which are from the skin. This piece of work will have series of different portraits showing different types of skin textures according to different ages. This could also depend on the facial expression I pick and the model to perform which will allow different textures. I will be experimenting with different colours but I aim all of the final pieces to this section to be clear and simple images which will be mostly used on the filter - High pass. I will also be blurring out majority of the background and neck to shoulder so it is mainly focused on the texture of the face.

Lee Jeffries:
Lee Jeffries took very passionate photos and this is what intrigued me, especially coming up with this idea. The idea was initiated by the way Lee used the facial texture to stand out and explore the face features, especially from the fact they are homeless people. He took photos of every age and it fitted my idea as I wanted different natural textures, although I will be using middle aged and teenage.
The photos have shown a real effect by the photographer Jeffries as it is very clear to what he's trying to show/say. The black and white also has a unique use of effect as it highlights the shadows of the face and background, I will be working with black and white and then removing some colours to increase specific textures. |
Martin Shoeller
Martin shoeller's photography is very specific and clear, he uses bright lighting and extreme close up, this is very significant to my work as I will be showing a lot of natural face textures and enhance some through photo shop. He uses very simple colours and works with natural beauty and different middle age.
The format of his photos are very different compared to Lee Jefferies as they are bright, natural colours and shows their identity differently to his. Martins photography holds a lot of textures which is what mainly inspired me to use him as an inspiration especially the idea of the skin and the background as their not all the same more greyish or white depending on the outfit. His photography does not have different types of shapes and it is not at your face, its simple and clear with minimum focusing points. This makes it good as it only allows the viewer to focus on saturation of the skin and the glow it gives with the textures of their natural beauty. |
Photo shoot 1:
Patricia - 38
Photoshop editing process:
For my main idea I decided to keep it all natural without any colour but colour and texture from the natural skin. I used auto tone and contrast and then high pass filter on photoshop on number 10. This will enhance and also sharpen the image and the texture then blur the edges out so that the focus is just on the face.
After for experimenting I decided to go black and white and pull down the redness of the image and the models features. After I decided to multiply the black and white photo to add the nice vintage brown colour.
Photo shoot 2:
Juliana - 14
I also did the same experiment with these first two photo shoot. I toned, and used the contrast tool. Then went on to image, black and white then just used the colours to tone the image into black and white (the first image to the left) then saved it and after I experimented with the multiply layer. In this photo shoot the best out come was the natural theme (the first goto to the right) as it suited the photo better and looked more intriguing than the other two experiments.

Photoshoot 3:
Ayan - 18
The editing process for the bottom two images was similar to all of the other edits, although on the left image, I used black and white but a softer look than having a heavy dark black. For the image on the right, I also just multiplied the layer and gave it a softer look after it multiplied from the black and white image. I brightened her eyes more on the left than the right to compare the difference once editing the high pass image, to see which one gave more of texture.
Photoshoot 4:
Siobhan - 18
The editing process was the same as the last few, as mentioned. The only difference in these two images is that I had used a different lighting technique to make her left side of the face a little darker and shadows so that her cheek bones stuck out more. After that I just blurred out everything else and then used the run tool to black the edge s and some of her eyes and cheeks. Furthermore turned it black and white then multiplied the right image.
Photo shoot 5:
Lucia - 78
Photo shoot 6:
Romualdo - 38
In this photo shoot I decided to enhance the black and white photo as I wanted the middle of the face to show more. This is because it is where most natural textures come out and show. The editing process was simple, I desaturated the whole image, used the burn tool lightly in the middle then darker around the edges. After I used the dodge tool to highlight the T zone and brighten some areas. |
